Dual-DMS Driver Monitoring System for a Central Asian Vehicle Project

Project Background

A customer in Central Asia required a customized video monitoring and driver-safety system for a special vehicle with two separate driving positions.

A conventional AI mobile DVR normally supports one DMS camera for driver monitoring and one ADAS camera for road-safety warnings. However, this standard configuration could not meet the customer’s requirements because the vehicle could be operated from either driving position.

The system needed to monitor the driver’s behavior regardless of which driving position was being used.

Customer Requirements

The customer needed the system to:

Support two DMS cameras simultaneously;

Cover both driving positions;

Identify which driving position was occupied;

Perform DMS analysis on the active driver;

Provide additional external video monitoring;

Display all camera images on an in-cab monitor;

Operate as one integrated vehicle safety system.

ZIYANGXING Solution

ZIYANGXING selected the M62 AI mobile DVR as the core device and customized its software and AI configuration for dual-DMS operation.

The complete system included:

1* M62 AI mobile DVR;

1* 7-inch vehicle monitor;

1* DMS cameras;

1* external vehicle cameras.

One DMS camera was installed at each driving position. The two external cameras were used to monitor important areas outside the vehicle.

Customized Dual-DMS Logic

In a conventional configuration, the M62 processes one DMS channel and one ADAS channel. For this project, ZIYANGXING modified the software to support two DMS channels instead.

The system monitors both driving positions and determines where a driver is present. When either position is occupied, the corresponding DMS camera performs driver-behavior detection.

Depending on the configured functions, the system can detect unsafe behaviors such as:

Fatigue or drowsiness;

Driver distraction;

Mobile phone use;

Smoking;

Looking away from the road.

This customized logic allows the vehicle to maintain driver-monitoring protection when operation switches from one driving position to the other.

Video Monitoring

The two external cameras provide additional visibility around the vehicle, while the 7-inch monitor displays the camera images for the operator.

The M62 manages all four video channels within one system, combining driver monitoring and external vehicle surveillance.

Project Value

The customized solution addressed an application that could not be supported by a standard one-DMS and one-ADAS configuration.

The project provided:

DMS coverage for two driving positions;

Automatic monitoring of the occupied driving position;

One integrated system for four camera channels;

External vehicle video monitoring;

A configuration adapted to the customer’s special vehicle design.

This project demonstrates ZIYANGXING’s ability to customize AI functions and software logic according to non-standard vehicle structures and specific operating requirements.
